Life Principles I Learned From My Mother #6: Just Because Someone Else Experienced It Doesn’t Mean You Have To

Naturally, we want to belong and fit in.  But, God made us to reflect His nature individually and together.  Our birth justified our existence to be here and add flavor to the world.

You don’t have to do anything that doesn’t resonate with the truth within you.  And, you don’t have to suffer because someone has.  You don’t have to experience heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or other health conditions. For example, on January 8th 2008, I took a non fasting blood test and learned my triglycerides were 250mg/dl. Given that many family members lived with heart disease, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, I knew I needed to make some lifestyle changes. By September 3, 2008, my fasting triglycerides was 76mg/dl. And since then, I’ve kept them in the mid to upper 40’s. As you know triglycerides should be less than 150mg/dl.

I share my story to reinforce the misconception that you don’t have to experience what others experienced. Family history doesn’t project your present or future. Instead, you have information to guide your life.

Over the years, my mother would say, you are in control of your life.  So, I’m reminding you that you are in control of your life. Give the questions I ask you considerable thought and listen to the Voice of Truth within you.

I share how one of my mother’s words of wisdom from my book, The Inner Garden, can help us lessen the “weeds”—the persistent negative emotions that can taint our purpose.Takeaways1. Storms are an opportunity to gain clarity about our experiences. We can choose to see them from a healthier, more grounded perspective.2. Persistent negative habits can slowly work against us from the inside out. An inner decline often begins long before anything becomes visible on the outside.3. Whatever remains in the dark will eventually come to light. We have both the power and the divine right to correct our persistent patterns of thinking and behavior. For continued support in cultivating harmony, health, and peace, check out my eBook: The Inner Garden 53 Life Principles Rooted in a Mother's Wisdom for Cultivating Harmony, Health, and Inner Peace. I believe it was last year when I tasted Denny’s Flaxseed Pancakes for the first time, and yum yum delicious🥰👍. I’ve shared my homemade version of these fantastic pancakes before, and this weekend, I made some more.

Did you know that Omega 3 can improve your health (clean your arteries, lower inflammation, lower cholesterol, and others)? Have you tried honey instead of syrup to sweeten your pancakes?

Two of My Favorite Types of Popsicles

Yesterday, I made two of my favorite popsicles. They did need to freeze overnight, but Cayla and her father couldn’t wait. When her dad told her the popsicles weren’t ready, Cayla responded, “I don’t care. I want one.”

Anyway, I’m glad they liked them!

I love creating and modifying recipes for a healthier version. I truly believe there is a way to enjoy the foods you love.

While you are here, listen to today’s episode about another of my mother’s life lessons.
