The Seeds We Plant Series #27: The Power of the Tongue

Hi there!

With anything we see through human actions, we don’t have to go far to see the power of socialization…the power of the tongue and the spoken word. As parents, we have the power to continue the cycle of pain or create a generational cycle of love.

In today’s episode, The Seeds We Plant Series #27: The Power of the Tongue, I share a recent personal experience and how I used one of my mother’s life principles, Live Another Day, to help me curtail my tongue and become more conscious of my emotions and feelings. Our beliefs about ourselves are at the root of any thought or words and fuel our tongues. No matter the experience, positive thoughts about ourselves can help keep us in the moment, master our emotions and feelings, and, therefore, our words to ourselves and others.

As parents, it is important that we:

  1. Acknowledge our emotions and feelings. The more we deny or resist something, the more and sometimes faster it returns to us. It’s okay if you are not in the best mood. Parents aren’t supposed to be perfect. Like all experiences, parenthood helps teach us about ourselves and grow into the highest version of ourselves.
  2. Realize that you are not your emotions or feelings or need to act from them. This statement opens the door to the next point.
  3. Discern what is helpful or harmful. I often tell my children, “Just because a thought comes to your mind doesn’t mean you must let it out into the world.”

The more conscious we become of ourselves, the more aware we are of the beliefs and thoughts that continue the cycle of pain. We open the door to a true perception of our experiences. In addition, we can change those thoughts at any time to create a new path.
