Healing from the Inside Out Series #2: Mastering Anger

Hi there!

Anger is a strong emotion and can prevent us from seeing ourselves and others clearly and life’s meaning and purpose. Anger can deter us from a life-giving path to a life-draining one.

But nothing masters us unless we allow it to do so. We can experience things without becoming the events in our lives. Daily, we must assess our garden and inner foundation for harmful thoughts (weeds such as anger) that can rob us of our spiritual fruit and an abundant harvest.

I started a new series, Healing from the Inside Out”¦.actually one week ago without knowing it, and I’m excited to share my thoughts on the opposite side of planting seeds. My Healing from the Inside Out series will address chronic emotions that can lead to chronic preventative health conditions. Mastering our emotions and feelings is part of achieving optimal health as we do our life’s work. We must face them and put them in a healthy perspective to have the freedom, joy, and peace we deserve.

As you know, research reveals that many people experience cardiac events on Mondays. We hold onto events and their residual emotions and feelings throughout the week and on weekends. We allow anger, anxiety, fear, guilt, shame, and the like to root themselves in us through our nervous system (our communication systems and the roots of our bodies), giving them full access to our cells. When we don’t feel good about ourselves or our lives, we extract joy from our heart, the center of our garden. In addition, our emotional state often leads to other unhealthy behaviors, putting us at risk for chronic preventative behaviors, including heart disease.

But we don’t have to struggle with our health. We can take a deep dive into our garden daily and assess and excavate anything that doesn’t belong. We can remove the hard objects that calcify our hearts and blood vessels. We can provide enough light, love, and other healthy nourishments. We can provide just enough water (truth) and replant our virtuous seeds through our actions and words.

We don’t have to live with consistent anger. We can be free of its grips, but first, we must believe that we deserve to be free from anger. Next, we must face the root of our anger, which often lies in the perception of events. For example, chronic anger may have its roots in unfulfilled expectations. We expect people to treat us a certain way, and when they don’t, we sometimes invite anger to come in and justify our emotional state. Finally, we must let go of the thoughts that keep anger in its place and choose a healthier way to see our experiences. My mother often told her children, “No one owes you anything.” She always encouraged us to pay more attention to actions instead of words, saying, “You are in control of yourself.”
