The Seeds We Plant Series #37: Listening to Your Body and Healthy Eating

Hi there!

I hope all is well with you!

Underweight, overweight, and obesity are sensitive topics; however, they are also topics we can’t overlook as millions of people deal with these health issues and the impact they have on themselves and the people who care for them (e.g., family members, healthcare professionals, and significant others). In addition, an unhealthy weight predisposes us to other chronic health conditions and illnesses.

Throughout my personal and professional life (over 20 years) in the healthcare industry, I’ve cared for many people (e.g., as a nurse, diabetes educator, health coach, instructor, etc.) who struggled with maintaining an optimal weight for various reasons. Although many things can impact our body weight (e.g., medications, surgeries, lifestyle, etc.), I’ve found that many of these reasons often have roots in mental constructs about life, the meaning and purpose of the human body, and past life events/traumas.

If your lifestyle puts you at risk of being at an unhealthy weight, it’s important to know that you can create healthy habits to help you achieve and sustain optimal health. As caregivers and parents, we can encourage our children to listen to their bodies to help them consume the right balance, moderation, and variety of foods. As we teach our children about healthy nutrition, we reinforce the concepts within ourselves and increase our chances of creating a generational cycle of love through healthy eating.

In The Seeds We Plant Series #36, Listen to Your Body and Healthy Weight, I share some of the myths I had to dispel about eating and how I am helping my children become more conscientious about the fuel they put in their bodies.

I share how one of my mother’s words of wisdom from my book, The Inner Garden, can help us lessen the “weeds”—the persistent negative emotions that can taint our purpose.Takeaways1. Storms are an opportunity to gain clarity about our experiences. We can choose to see them from a healthier, more grounded perspective.2. Persistent negative habits can slowly work against us from the inside out. An inner decline often begins long before anything becomes visible on the outside.3. Whatever remains in the dark will eventually come to light. We have both the power and the divine right to correct our persistent patterns of thinking and behavior. For continued support in cultivating harmony, health, and peace, check out my eBook: The Inner Garden 53 Life Principles Rooted in a Mother's Wisdom for Cultivating Harmony, Health, and Inner Peace.
